EMR and Safety

Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is used by insurance companies to gauge risk. They use past lost time cases and recordable injuries to assess a company’s chance of future incidents. An EMR of 1.0 is considered the industry standard. Underground Services continually maintains an EMR rating lower than the industry average.

We are very proud of our commitment to safety every day. Our employees complete OSHA training, defensive driving, and first aid/CPR courses. Many also have the additional OSHA 40 HAZWOPER certification. We also complete industry-specific training and safety courses for the sites we visit, such as pharmaceutical, research, industrial facilities, power plants, and airports. We have personnel trained in railroad sites such as Amtrak, CSX, Conrail, and Septa. Our workforce is also trained as ATSSA Flaggers and can operate on roadways while protecting the project and public safety. We maintain access cards to military facilities and TWIC cards for access to ports and other security-sensitive areas. We will complete any training requirements that may be needed for a specific site or client.
